Congregational Youth Advisors Page
Mid-Atlantic District
Church of the Brethren

Okay. You volunteered to be a youth advisor in your church. Or, maybe, you were asked. Possibly your arm was twisted. No matter. Look through the Bible and you'll find all sorts of ways God has called folks to ministry. Remember this, however - the Lord never calls without providing the ways and means for answering the call. Furthermore, what you are doing is one of the most important tasks in the church!
As advisors to the district senior high youth cabinet, we (Jan Walker & Pete Haynes) also wish to support you in your work. Actually, we're all in this together!  "Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing." (1 Thessalonians 5:11)   If there are ways we can provide assistance, as we are able, please let us know.

Hey! Are you out there, advisors? Again, TALK TO US! Send an email. Communicate!

Hate to say it, but churches need to be cautious about the adults who work with their children and youth. This is just a fact of life in this present age. Full-time staff at Shepherd's Spring, for instance, gets fingerprinted during their orientation every summer, and a background check is run. Down the road it is conceivable that even volunteers might need something similar. We can bemoan this trend (and avoid youth work because of it), or we can get ahead of the curve. Our choice. One way of doing the latter is through Group Publishing's Church Volunteer Central Background Checks. (This is not a product endorsement, if you discover other resources for doing the same thing, let me know.)
