Ben Bear
"Hi! My name is
Ben(jamin Christian Bear). I am an extremely single 17 year old senior
at Brentsville
District High School, here in Nokesville, VA. I’m 5’11”, blond
and, at the moment, do not have a date for the prom. I play tuba in the
band and trombone for our jazz band. During the winter and springtime I
can usually be found on the track.
I also sing in our church’s youth choir. I have two sisters, Jackie
(13) and Alexis (19). I have no idea where I am going to college at yet.
When I turn 35 I am going to marry Katy Rother. I have all my fingers
and toes intact. I hope to see you at some of the district events in the
year to come!" (By the way, Ben did get
a date for the prom!) |

"I'm a 16-year-old, would-be Junior spending 5 months living with a
friend in Uppsala,
Sweden. My home church is the Washington City C.O.B. where my mom is
pastor. Home is about 14 blocks from the Capitol building. When I get
home in January I'll be returning to the Duke
Ellington School of the Arts where I'll be a third year junior in
the Theatre Department. I spent this past summer as a member of the Youth
Peace Travel Team (cf
another peace
team page) and had an incredible experience. I've got strong
passions for peace and women's issues and hope to find a college with a
good program for that. This is my second year serving on Cabinet and I
can't wait to get home and hear about all the crazy antics my fellow
cabinet members have come up with without me! I miss you guys and I'm
sorry I can't be there for all the planning!" |
Seth Mose
"My name is Seth Mose. I am seventeen and currently am a senior at
Smithsburg High School. At school I am involved with the SGA and French
Club. I go to the Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren where I am an
active member of our youth group. When I am not busy with church or
school I enjoy to read, listen to music, and hang out with friends.
After high school I plan to attend one of the many Brethren colleges and
major in Philosophy." |

"I am a 16yr
old junior at Linganore High School.
I have a huge family (2 older brothers, 1 older sister and 2 younger
sisters). My dad is the pastor of Locust
Grove Church of the Brethren where I am a member and attend
regularly (ha!). I am not the official "president" of the
youth group, but I mightaswellbe. In school I am the wrestling manager
and participate a lot with the stuff that goes on with my Horticulture
and AgScience classes. Some people say that I could be quite the actress
or public speaker, others say that I am a good athlete and yet others
even will mention my singing to you. Find me at any of the events coming
up and find out for yourself. And also just so you know, don't look at
me weird when you hear people calling my by my many nicknames (Nomie,
Nome, Macanoni, Macc, Na, feel free to make up more :-) " |
Chris Palsgrove
"I am a senior and am serving my third year on Cabinet this year. I
attend Francis
Scott Key High School and am involved with wresting, tennis, and
theater. I have been to NYC
once and have been involved in district activities for many years. I
attend the Union
Bridge Church of the Brethren. Also, I have aspirations later in
life of marrying Jan Walker.....if she'll have me." (ed. note -
humor is another aspiration of his ... dream on, brother) |
Katy Rother
"My name is Katy
Rother. I am a senior at Osbourn
Park High School, in Manassas VA. I attend the Nokesville COB; where
I am part of the youth choir. I, too, am single until I reach 35 when I
plan to marry Ben Bear because he is perfect in every way. Speaking of
perfect in everyway, I also play the violin in the chamber orchestra at
school. This is my third year on cabinet and I have enjoyed every moment
of it." |
Jan Walker (advisor)
"I'm serving my third year as advisor.
I'm
a member of the Locust Grove
congregation in Mt. Airy, MD, working with the youth there for the past
10 years (that means I’ve survived 3 NYC’s as an advisor).
I graduated from Towson State
University, back when “State”
was still in the name, with a Computer Science degree.
My paying job is as a computer programmer/analyst and air
pollution scientist with an environmental consulting firm in Columbia,
MD.
Of course, the job that I don’t get a paycheck for is all
the church work I do (just ask my mom).
Besides being the Youth Group leader, Sr. High Youth Sunday
School teacher and Youth Bible Study leader, I also currently serve
on the Church Board and the Music and Worship Committee, as well as play the piano for the Music Team during worship services.
In my spare time, I enjoy sewing and needlework, especially
cross-stitch, reading, playing the piano, and watching sports – when
at all possible I’m there on the sidelines or in the stands at my
nephews’ games.
The past three summers I've spent a week of my vacation as
one of the co-directors for Youth Camp at Shepherd’s
Spring." |
Pete Haynes (advisor)
"I'm a newcomer to
district cabinet, though not to youth work. Almost ten years ago I co-directed the first week of Youth Camp at Shepherd's
Spring. Twenty
years ago I was a youth pastor in Indiana, attending my first (and
thus far only) NYC in 1982.
Me, my wife (Karen), and another couple
formed and led the Northern Indiana District Youth Choir. Since
attending Bethany
Seminary, I've pastored two congregations - the last 10 years at
Long Green Valley Church of the
Brethren in the northern suburbs of Baltimore. I have four children,
ages 6 to 15. Seven of the last nine summers I've co-directed co-ed
junior camp (grades 3-5) at Shepherd's
Spring. I love camp, music,
drama, Jesus, and His church. If you're still interested, check out more
bio info." |
