Our Father who art in heaven,
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
                    hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
                    Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth,
thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
                    as it is in heaven.
And give us this day our daily bread.
And give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
                    Forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
                    as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil,
                    but deliver us from evil,
for thine is the kingdom and the power
for thine is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forevermore,
                    and the glory forevermore,
forevermore. Amen.
                    forevermore. Amen.
Forevermore. Amen.
                    Forevermore. Amen.

#351 in Hymnal: A Worship Book

Words:  based on Matthew 6:8-13
   Tune:  Jabani P. Mambula
Text and Music ©1974 Church of the Brethren General Board

This setting of the Lord's Prayer is by a Nigerian Brethren and was written for use in the primary schools there, probably at Waka. Mambula testifies that the tune was revealed to him during a church service. "This particular song revealed the effectiveness of God as a Mighty Father feeding his children," he writes. "When his children become naughty he forgives them. He is seen as a protector shielding us from the destructive Satan."
Born in 1935 in Giwa Higi, Uba District of Nigeria, Jabani is a member of the Margi tribe. He was baptized in 1947. In 1968 he became an ordained Brethren minister. An experienced educator, he has served as administrator at Waka Secondary School, Waka Teachers College, and Borno College of Basic Studies. He also worked in the Borno State government as an inspector of education and then commissioner for Health, Agriculture, and Community Development. He also has been general secretary of the Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria (TEKAN).
