Offertory Scripture Sentences

            Below are some scripture verses appropriate for use in worship as part of an invitation to return to God our Tithes and Offerings. This list was suggested by Hilbert J. Berger in his booklet Now, Concerning the Offering  (©1987, by the author, Discipleship Resources, Nashville).

"Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7)

"...the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully." (2 Corinthians 9:6)

"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits." (Psalm 103:2)

"Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

"So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift." (Matthew 5:23-24)

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?" (Matthew 6:25)

"For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?" (Mark 8:35-36)

And Jesus said to them, "Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions." (Luke 12:15)
