Call to Worship

One:      And so we begin again. . . the Christ is a child, small and
helpless. . . carried, entrusted to human hands.

All:         And in the temple, old Simeon and the prophet Anna wait
                    and watch.

One:       He comes to them wrapped and tightly held, God's life
burning in his baby black eyes.

Men:       Simeon looks into the face of God and cries, "I've seen
                     your salvation!"

Women:  Anna holds God s future in her arms and cries out in praise.

One:        And the weary folk around them take another look at the
baby Jesus and begin to wonder...

All:          Is this the One?

Men:       Is this the face of hope?

Women:  How will those little hands change our world?

Children/youth: What will he do when he grows up?

Women:  Who will he be?

Men:         Is he the One?

All:            Have I seen God s salvation?

Unison Invocation

Saving God, no matter how many times we hear your story, we are still surprised to find you alive and burning with love in our midst. As you came to fulfill Simeon s life, as you came to renew Anna s hope, come to each of us, that we may see our salvation in you. Amen.
