Call to Worship

"Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name;
      Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
"     (Psalm 29:2 NKJV)

Responsive Prayer

Leader:  Merciful God, forgive our foolish ways.
             We turn our minds and hearts
                   from our ambitions and selfish desires,
                          which take priority;
                   from our possessions and treasures,
                          which hold us captive;
                   from our greed and self-centeredness,
                          which lead to war and injustice;
                   from our pride and self-importance,
                          which distance us from your Spirit.
             We turn our minds to you.

       All: We set our minds on things that are above,
              not on things that are on earth.

Women: We have been raised with Christ;
              We set our minds on things that are above.

     Men: We are hidden in Christ;
              We set our minds on things that are above.

   Youth: Christ is our life;
              We set our minds on things that are above.

Leader: You have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is
             being renewed in knowledge according to the image
             of its Creator. In that renewal there is no longer Gentile
             and Jew; slave and free; man, woman, and youth.

       All: But Christ is all and in all!
             We set our minds on things that are above,
             not on things that are on earth. Amen.

A Holy Place
(a responsive reading of scriptures)

One - "‘You shall be holy; for I the Lord your God am holy.’
          Thus says our God."                     (Leviticus 19:2)

All -   "Once you were alienated from God and were enemies
          in your mind because of your evil behavior.
One - But now God has reconciled you by Christ’s death to
          present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free
          from accusation
All -   If you continue in your faith, established and firm, not
          moved from the hope held out in the gospel. "
                                                             (Colossians 1:21-23)

Left - "So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners,
          but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the
          household of God.
Right- built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
          Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,
All -   in whom the whole structure is joined together and
          grows into a holy temple in the Lord.
One - in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place
          of God in the Spirit."                     (Ephesians 2:19-22)

All -  "Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
          And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself
          up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."
                                                               (Ephesians 5:1-2)

One - "As obedient children, do not be conformed to the
          passions of your former ignorance.
All -   but as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves
          in all your conduct, since it is written, "You shall be
          holy, for I am holy."                       (1 Peter 1:14-16)

One - "You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy
          nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the
          wonderful deeds of him who called you out of
          darkness into his marvelous light.
All -   Once you were no people but now you are God’s
          people; once you had not received mercy but now
          you have received mercy."              (1 Peter 2:9-10)

Pastoral Prayer

written closer to the time (if not at the moment)

Returning our Tithes and Offerings

         Tread softly for this is holy ground. Even when it comes to our finances. Have you ever thought of your checkbook as a holy place, your wallet as sacred space? Not to worship Mammon - to make money our god. Rather, to recognize that the Lord is sovereign even here. As you return your offering just now, tread softly upon this holy ground. The One who once told Moses, "I am who I am" is God, even of our finances. Don’t just put your offering in the plate. Take off your shoes and sit in God’s presence... Ushers?

Prayer of blessing over bread and cup

Communion

Benediction

         "Now may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all... And may he so strengthen your hearts in holiness that you may be blameless before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints."
                                                     (1 Thessalonians 3:12-13)
