Call to
Worship
1 - "The heavens declare the glory of God;
2 - the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
1 - Day after day they pour forth speech;
2 - night after night they display knowledge.
1 - There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.
2 - Their voice goes out into all the earth,
1 - their words to the ends of the world.
2 - In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,
1 - which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,
2 - like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
1 - It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to
the other;
2 - nothing is hidden from its heat."
-----------------
1 - Sisters and brothers, let us declare the glory of God.
2 - Brothers and sisters, let us proclaim the work of his hands.
1 - "From all that dwell below the skies" (that’s us,
folks)
2 - "let the Creator’s praise arise!"

Returning
our Tithes and Offerings
It was Sunday,
Sept. 4, the weekend following hurricane Katrina. Worship was
underway in the Columbia City Church of the Brethren. a small
Northern Indiana congregation. The worship leader was ready to
begin, but before that could happen, three youth came forward.
"Today, the
junior and senior high youth have decided to donate money to the
hurricane relief fund," three seventh grade girls of that
church announced. They then challenged the rest of the congregation
to match their $1,000, which came from money raised for next year’s
National Youth Conference, a Junior High work camp, and other
upcoming "fun" events.
How did that church
respond to the challenge of their youth? What do you think?
Fascinating things happen, you know, when God’s children put their
hands together to do what they hear the Lord calling them to do. How
about you? How are you responding?
Will the ushers
come forward to receive our tithes and offerings?

Dedication
Many hands have touched these plates,
O Lord. Some calloused and tough, others soft and tender. Some large, others
small. We bring before you the work of these hands. In such giving we seek to be
your hands, your body, your church. Bless, O Lord, the work of our hands toward
your greater work. We pray in the name of the One who, with two hands such as
ours, broke and shared the bread of life. Amen.
