Call to Worship
(Psalm 96:1-9, NRSV)

(worship leader is voice 1, voice 2 comes from the back of the sanctuary like an echo)

1 - O sing to the LORD a new song;
                     sing to the LORD, all the earth.

2 - Sing to the LORD, bless his name;
                     tell of his salvation from day to day.

1 - Declare his glory among the nations,
                     his marvelous works among all the peoples.

2 - For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
                     he is to be revered above all gods.

1 - For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
                     but the LORD made the heavens.

2 - Honor and majesty are before him;
                     strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

1 - Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples,
                     ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

2 - Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name;
                     bring an offering, and come into his courts.

1 - Worship the LORD in holy splendor;
                     tremble before him, all the earth.

Opening Prayer

         Awesome and majestic God, your creative power, your glory and holiness were experienced by your people of old as clouds and fire guiding them to freedom. They believed that no one could see your face and live. How blessed therefore are we, for you have revealed your face to us in Jesus - the human face of your love. You also equip us for our journey through life and beyond, by breathing new and everlasting life into our very beings, through the gift of the Holy Spirit. We praise and adore you, O God, for making our lives so special, by choosing to share your life with us in and through Jesus. May this time of worship and the service of our lives reveal our thanksgiving and our wonder that you should so care for us. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen

CROP Walk Skit

(Two persons walk - with microphones - side by side
around the sanctuary as they talk)

1 - I’m glad you talked me into this CROP Walk, Pam.

2 - It  IS  a beautiful day to hike along this trail.

1 - Yes, the changing colors of the leaves almost take your breath away.

2 - AND  we get some exercise, too!

1 - I need to do more of this. Walking is just plain good medicine.

2 - Especially for people like me who sit behind a desk all day.

1 - Maybe this can be the start of something more regular.

2 - You interested?

1 - Maybe.

(After a pause, while still walking, pretend to talk
with someone hiking in the opposite direction.)

2 - Good afternoon. Hey, what church are you all from? ...
             Chestnut Grove? ... Great!

(To each other again)

1 - This is cool. We get to meet folks from other churches.

2 - Yes, this is a community-wide effort.

1 - And it happens every year at this time?

2 - This is the tenth anniversary.

1 - Really? Ten years. That’s impressive.

2 - We’ve raised a lot of money over the years to help feed the hungry.

1 - I like that. This is walking ‘with a purpose.’

2 - You know, lots of people in this world have to walk this far
             just to get water or food.

1 - And all we have to do is turn on the faucet or open the fridge.

2 - Makes you think, doesn’t it!

1 - I’m not just walking for my own health, as important as it is
             to take care of this body God gave me.

2 - Yes, we’re walking to help somebody else.

1 - I like that... I wish more people from our church
             had signed up to walk.

2 - They don’t know what they’re missing.

1 - Good Friendship.

2 - Good Exercise.

1 - With a good purpose - to help feed the hungry.

2 - Sounds like good news to me. (End skit and face congregation)
             Won’t you join us next Sunday after church?
             See me or Lillie Mae today for more information.
             Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see lots of folks
                          from our church on the trail?

Pastoral Prayer

written closer to the time (if not at the moment)

Returning our Tithes and Offerings

Read Psalm 96:10-13, then:

         "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's," Jesus said, "and to God what is God’s." Ushers?

Benediction

Go now as those who have found favor in the sight of God.
      Be imitators of Jesus Christ
      and an example to all of the life of faith.
      To the world in which you live, give your love and service,
      and to God, give all that you are and all that you shall be.

And may the glory of God’s goodness be revealed to you;
May the grace and peace of Jesus Christ take root in you;
And may the inspiration of the Holy Spirit fill you with joy.
