Call to Worship

One: God welcomes us to this place of worship.

All: We stand on holy ground!

One: God smiles on and through everyone here.

All: We are among friends!

One: God knows and understands each one of us.

All: We have nothing to hide!

One: God calls us to consider our options.

All: We are free to choose!

One: God respects our choices.

All: We are loved!

All: Loving God, we receive your welcome and we welcome your presence. Move among us and transform us. Help us see who Jesus is and give us the courage to follow.

(by Russell Jensen)

Invocation

Oh God, as we worship, make yourself known to us at this moment for we cannot choose the time that we live in, yet we know that Jesus calls us to choose what we do with the time we are given when he offers us the invitation to follow him.

Our lives are about choices, yet we have chosen to be here. May that be a step in which we set aside the choices that pull us away from you and open our hearts to your word and to your call. Amen.

(by David Steele)

Pastoral Prayer

written closer to the time (if not at the moment)

Responding with our Tithes and Offerings

Have you ever played the game ‘follow the leader?’ It’s probably been awhile, huh? But we follow leaders every day. Think about it: we follow the lead of our parents by listening to their advice and rules; we follow advertisements by buying products from Coke, Pepsi, Nike, Verizon, Abercrombie, Microsoft and McDonald’s; we follow the lead of our peers in how we spend our free time. But as Christians, we’re called to follow Jesus. So what will you choose to do with the time you are given? Are you following the ways of the world or are you following Jesus?

Challenge and Sending

May God deny you an easy peace,
      and grant you instead, passion,
a revolutionary passion that spills over into the world
in acts of compassion and love, justice and integrity.
Go in the spirit and way of Christ,
who is our strength, our passion, and our true peace!
