the Lord answered her,
“Martha, Martha, you are worried and
distracted by many things; there is need of only
one thing. Mary has chosen the better part,
which will not be taken away from her.”

Call to
Worship
Psalm 85:8-13
A Paraphrase For those who will listen,
let them hear: God will speak peace
to God's people,
to God's faithful,
to those who turn to God in their
hearts. God's salvation is at hand
for those who fear God. When our
living is right in God's eyes,
When justice makes a path for God's steps,
Steadfast love and faithfulness meet.
Righteousness and peace kiss each
other.
Faithfulness springs up from the
ground.
Justice looks down from the sky.
The LORD gives what is good.
Our land yields in abundance.
God's glory dwells among us.

Prayer
of Confession and Commitment
God who spoke creation into being, we long for you to speak peace to
our world, to our nation, to our families, and to our aching hearts.
Forgive us when we forget that, in order to find peace, our hearts
and lives must reflect that we are your people. Grant us the wisdom
to seek your will, and the courage to do your will. In the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, we pray. Amen.

and the Lion's Den"

Returning
our Tithes and Offerings
From the familiar
23rd Psalm, we hear these words of confident prayer:
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you
anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows”
(Psalm
23:5). Are
these your words also? If so, give out of the abundance you have
received. Ushers?

Unison
Confession
Our lives are cluttered, Lord Jesus
by too many things
and too much to do.
We are driven by the need to succeed.
and distracted by our service.
We have often lost our way.
Forgive us.
Let us, like Mary,
find the one thing that is needed
and sit at your feet. AMEN

Prayer of Blessing
part a - the bread
Leader: Blessed are you, O God.
You made bread to strengthen us.
You set aside this bread
as a sign of your Son's broken body.
In breaking it, may we participate
in the reconciliation of Christ.
People: May Christ's body be the bread of our souls,
to give us strength to continue our pilgrimage,
being made worthy to sit with all the redeemed
at the marriage feast of the Lamb.
ALL: Hear us, O God, through our mediator, Jesus Christ. AMEN
part b - the cup
Leader: Blessed are you, O God.
You made the vine to strengthen us.
You set aside this cup
as a sign of your Son's shed blood.
In drinking the cup,
may we participate in the blood of Christ.
People: May Christ's blood make us strong
to drink the cup of suffering
without complaint, for Jesus' sake,
in the hope that we shall drink new wine
in your kingdom.
ALL: Hear us, O God, for the sake of your eternal love. AMEN
