Call to
Worship
1 - Teach us to value each and every day, LORD, so that we will
be wise enough to make the most of them.
2 - It’s time for a change, LORD. Hasn’t this gone on long
enough? For pity’s sake, it’s time to give us a break.
1 - Let a new day dawn and give us our fill of your love and
loyalty, so that our lives may be full of smiles and laughter
till the end of our days.
2 - Give us more days of happiness than the days of suffering
you sent. May the years where evil reigned be cancelled out by
years of joy.
1 - Make your actions clear to those of us in your service; let
your children see your strength in all its glory.
2 - Put us in your good books, O Lord our God, and give us a
rich return for all our labor - may the work of our hands turn
to gold!

Opening
Prayer
As we travel this
lifelong journey, God, we remember that you are always near,
even in those moments of struggle when we cry out, “how long,
Lord? Have mercy!” In hope we pray, and ask you to bless
each day, that we might see your handiwork in and beyond our own
efforts.
We believe that
you have called us here this morning. Help us this hour:
to hear you speak through the scriptures,
to sense your listening presence in our prayers,
to give voice to our faith in hymns and songs,
to wrestle with your discipleship training, and
to then head out into our community as servants of Christ.
This we pray in his name. Amen.

Returning
our Tithes and Offerings
(after reading
Amos 5:6-15)
Okay, Lord, we
hear you loud and clear. Whether it’s the public or private
sphere, through government or through charity, we ignore the
poor at our own peril, for you bear a deep concern for them, and
judge harshly those who do not. Help us to grow in this area,
for we are not each living on our own little island, out to
benefit only ourselves. As we place a portion of our wealth into
the offering plate, open our minds and hearts to your larger
vision of a realm where all are valued and cared for as your
children. May your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as
it is in heaven! Amen.
|
Benediction
Head back into your neighborhood now,
as people who trust that in God all things are possible.
Therefore,
live out his commandments;
let go of what you need to release
in order to follow Jesus; and
invest everything in God’s realm.
The Lord is steadfast and true,
and will bless this journey of faith.
Amen.
