Prayer for Spiritual Guidance

For Children
"My Dad, Chosen by God"

Our children's storyteller, Ed Lewis, writes : "I want to talk about Dads. Why is that? What is today? That's right - it is Father's day. It is only right that we take time in church to talk about Dads on Father's Day. What are some things that Father's do, to be a good Dad? Most important is love, and since God made Dads, He gives them lots of love. That is easy! Let's put on our thinking caps and come up with other things that make a good Dad. Things that my Dad did that made him a great Dad, is tour guide, protector, hard worker (made money for us to live), entertainer (used to make me laugh), teacher, and advisor. These are just a few of the things that I remember about my Dad. My Dad died when I was seven, but, I remember all these things about him.
"The day my first son, Eric, was born, Nov. 13th, 1979, they placed this baby in my arms. I remember I started to cry. At that moment I thought of my Dad and I felt like I was standing there in his shoes looking down at me as a baby in his arm. It was like God gave me a moment that I shared with Dad. Then when I started to think about me being a Dad, that I had been chosen for this job, chosen by God. We went on to have two other children and at each birth I felt choen again and again. We all are lucky that God chooses are Fathers. It is important for Dad's to know how special they are, that God loves them so much that he gives them a big responsibility. It is also, important to know how much we appreciate them and how much we love our Dads."

Pastoral Prayer

written closer to the time (if not at the moment)

Call to the Offering

Let us do what pleases God; think beyond ourselves and give to the causes greater than our own wants.  Let us minister to the needs of our neighbor.

Prayer of Dedication

Benediction

Eternal Lord,
as we leave this place of worship and communion,
may we go, knowing that you never leave or forsake us.
Help us to go with the song of faith in our hearts,
the peace of Christ in our lives,
the protection of the Spirit beside us,
and the security of your presence beneath us. AMEN
